Five Years Ago, We Left Home

In 2021, we moved from Jalgaon to Nashik with no plan for the next five years. The why was clear. The how was not. Here is what showed up.

In 2021, Anuya and I packed up our life in Jalgaon and moved to Nashik with our kids.

New city. No friends. No family nearby. No experience of ever moving our home before.

From the outside, it made little sense. Moneyplus was doing well in Jalgaon. We had a big set of clients who trusted us, people we had known for years.

That was exactly the reason we moved.

The trouble with doing well

When things are going well, we stop looking far. We get busy protecting what we have. The days fill up, the work is familiar, and slowly our thinking becomes narrow without us noticing.

Nothing is wrong. That is the problem. Nothing pushes us to ask, “What else can we do for our investors?”

Moving to Nashik took away the comfort. Everything was new, so everything was a question.

What Nashik gave our kids

Back home, children are looked after by everyone — grandparents, uncles, aunts, neighbours. It is a lovely thing. It also means a child rarely has to do things alone.

In Nashik, our kids had to. They learned to manage on their own, make their own small decisions, and deal with their own problems.

Today they are far more independent than they would have been at home. Of everything the move gave us, this may be the best.

The why was clear. The how was not.

When we came to Nashik, I could not have told you the plan for the next five years. I did not know how we would grow, or when.

But the why was always clear: do the best for our investors.

When the why is clear, the how slowly shows up. Here is what showed up for us.

Families across India, one claim at a time

The first big change was health insurance.

Through Beshak, people across the country who were looking for help with health insurance began to reach us. Families we had never met, in cities we had never visited, started trusting Moneyplus with their health cover.

Our insurance work grew from one town to the length and breadth of India. In November 2023, Beshak recognised me among India’s Top Rated Advisors for health insurance.

But the award is not what I remember most. I remember the claims.

Nobody is happy that a client has to go to hospital. But being there for a family in that moment, and seeing them get the right support, is the most satisfying work we do.

Earlier this year, three members of one family were badly hurt in a major accident. For two to three months, it was hospitals, bills, approvals, forms and more forms. The claims ran into lakhs.

Our team stayed with the family through all of it — the hospital’s approvals, the top-up claim, every pending document. We followed up on even the smallest item — the ₹3,000 ambulance cover for one member — until it was paid.

At the end, one of the family members wrote to us:

“We really have no words for the patience and help you have shown throughout the process.”

Since April this year, Moneyplus has helped settle 76 health insurance claims, and families received ₹64 lakh from their insurers.

On average, they got 89% of the amount they claimed, in about 21 days.

Behind each of those numbers is a family that had a bad week, and did not have to face the paperwork alone.

Learning something new at this age

The second change was more personal.

In Nashik, I found time to learn something I never thought I would: building software with the help of AI.

I used it to build Aventryx, Moneyplus’s own system. Our whole team has been working on it since April 2026. I wrote about how it started in March: 20 Years of Frustration. 30 Days of Building. One Operating System.

Here is what it means for you as an investor:

  • You know your tax before you sell. When you want to take money out of your mutual funds, we show you the tax first, and pick the units that cost you the least tax.
  • A reminder before your SIP date. So the money is in your account when the SIP is due.
  • A quick alert if a SIP bounces. And help to invest that amount again. Since April, more than 290 missed SIP instalments, worth about ₹23.7 lakh, were invested again this way.
  • Every call is written down. Each call with our team is noted with a short summary, so nothing is forgotten and there is no confusion later.
  • Advance tax reminders. If you have sold mutual funds and advance tax may be due, we remind you before the date. No surprises at year end.

None of this is about technology. It is about one thing:

We reach you before you even realise you need us.

Jalgaon did not lose out

When we moved, the biggest worry was our clients back home. Would they feel left behind?

The opposite happened. Our Jalgaon clients are served better today than when we were sitting in the same town. And many new families joined us along the way.

Being close to a client was never about distance. It is about being there before they have to ask.

The next step: Moneyplus Fintech

There is one thing that still bothers me.

A good investing experience — someone who explains things simply, reminds you on time, and is there when something goes wrong — is still not easy to find in India.

It is hardest for young people. A new earner, or someone in their twenties investing for the first time, usually gets an app and a helpline. No person.

So Anuya and I have started a new company: Moneyplus Fintech. It is now recognised as a startup by DPIIT, Government of India.

It is for people who want to invest on their own. Here is what we are building:

  • From KYC to your first investment in about 30 minutes. No running around, no stack of forms.
  • A coach that is always around. It is built on AI, explains things in plain words, and checks that a fund fits you before you invest.
  • A real person when the coach cannot help. One WhatsApp message, and someone from our team who can see your account takes over.

An app, yes. But never only an app.

A bigger home for Moneyplus in Nashik

Our Nashik office has served us well for these five years. Now it is time for an upgrade.

In January 2027, we move into a new, bigger space: the Experience Centre of Moneyplus Fintech.

It is a place where families can walk in, sit with our team, and understand their money properly — their investments, their insurance and their plans — without hurry. And for a young investor who starts on the app, it is proof that there are real people behind it.

For us, it is also a quiet reminder of how far five years can take you when you are willing to start again.

I would like to hear from you

If Moneyplus has helped you or your family at some point, please share that moment in a Google review.

And if we have let you down, or you can see where we could do better, please tell me on WhatsApp at +91 80870 58000.

Please do not share policy numbers, folio numbers or other personal details in your review.

Thank you

None of this was a plan we made in 2021. It happened because a few people trusted us when we were starting over.

Thank you to our clients who stayed with us, and to those who joined us in these five years. Thank you to our team, who learned a new way of working this year without complaint. And thank you to our families, who let us go.

Five years ago, we left home to see what else we could do for our investors.

We are still finding out.
